I think mainly younger kids play.
I agree with Noel. It's boring without a membership. I mean, BABV without a bear is fun. Fantage without a membership is kind of fun. ToonTown without a membership is fun, until you reach the max.
But Club Penguin without a membership? Boring.

I have a free membership there but it never impressed me; in fact their chat feature turned me off. I saw a lot of kids sharing their email address, phone numbers and all other personal information you can think of. It was scary.
